“Charity, patience and tenderness are very beautiful gifts. If you have them, you want to share them with others.” – Pope Francis
The St. John Vianney Conference is an active affiliate of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP), an international lay Catholic organization focused on offering person-to-person service to individuals and/or families in need of spiritual or material assistance.
Our SVdP Ministry provides services to needy and suffering persons within the Sedona community who are experiencing temporary difficulty due to illness, unemployment, personal tragedy or other unexpected challenges.
Examples of services offered by SVdP include:
We also provide advocacy and assistance in obtaining federal, state and local services to address longer-term needs. You do not need to be a parishioner of St. John Vianney Parish or Catholic to receive the services of SVdP.
We are young and old. Our members come in a variety of skin color. Some of us are wealthy, some are financially poor, but all of us are blessed with an awareness that our blessings are to be shared with our brothers and sisters in need. We invite you to share your time, talent, and treasure and help build His church here on earth.
Our Faith in Action
Pastoral care for the those in need has been a tradition in the Catholic Church since the early days of Christianity. As Christians we are called by Jesus to serve those in need: the hungry, homeless, vulnerable, and sick.
Inspired by Gospel values, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul leads women and men to join together to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to those who are needy and suffering, in the tradition of its founder, Blessed Frédéric Ozanam, and patron, St. Vincent de Paul. Vincentians witness God’s love by embracing all works of charity and justice.
“Everyone has something to give to society; no one is excluded from contributing to the good of all.” – Pope Francis
Food Pantry Service
Our food pantry Vincentians provide food to anyone arriving at our pantry every Thursday from 9 am to 11 am. We obtain the food from five sources: 1) St. Vincent de Paul Phoenix delivers a monthly pallet of food every first Friday of the month; 2) St. Mary’s Food Bank delivers food twice-a-month; 3) The Verde Valley Neighborhood Food Project, (aka VVNFP) Green Bag Collection, provides us with approximately 2,000 pounds of food bimonthly; 4) parishioners drop off food donations in the SVdP carton located in the church office; and 5) we purchase food as needed. Volunteers are welcome and can participate in stocking, shelving, storing, and distributing food.
Outreach and Service
How it works–A person calls the St. Vincent de Paul phone number and asks for help; one member listens to those calls; and two active members are assigned to visit that person. The members assist them with their needs and offer them additional resources that they can appeal to for help. When we meet as a Conference, the members report on their clients without giving the client’s name. We then see if there is any other way that we can help them. If you or someone you know would benefit from these services or if you’re interested in supporting this Ministry with your time, talent or treasure, please contact us at: (928) 821-1292, send an email to [email protected] or sign up on Flocknote below.
Give hope and help when it is needed.
Be a voice of the poor.
An Invitation to Serve
We welcome new members at any time. As a prospective member of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, you are invited to attend our Conference’s meetings. Our meetings are held on the 1st and 3rd Monday from 9:00 am to 10:30 am at the Church.
After a training period, you will have the opportunity to make home visits to needy households. The number of home visits varies with the incoming case load and the member’s availability – typically 2 to 4 visits per month. Home visits are always done by a pair of Vincentians, working together. Alternatively, you may enjoy serving in the Food Pantry.
